Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is accepting applications to fulfill the full-time tenure-track role of John Deere Agricultural Technology Instructor.

General Responsibilities
The John Deere Agricultural Technology Program was formed as the result of an agreement between Walla Walla Community College and John Deere Company.  The purpose of the program is to provide training for entry-level service technicians.  Students enrolled in the program are referred to WWCC directly from John Deere dealerships.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in agricultural equipment maintenance and repair to new students.
 
 Essential Functions:

  • Provide instruction in maintenance and repair of John Deere agricultural equipment, including current testing and diagnostic procedures.
  • Incorporate relevant technology into classroom presentations.
  • Ensure that classroom, shop, and equipment are kept in good condition and a pleasant learning environment exists.
  • Monitor and document student learning and performance.
  • Update and develop curriculum as necessary.
  • Earn a minimum of 20 credits in John Deere University (JDU) training (to satisfy John Deere College of Tomorrow guidelines).
  • Stay current with core classes.
  • Participate in JDU classes as they are assigned by John Deere.
  • Participate in department and college activities, committees, etc., as appropriate.

  • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect between students and WWCC coworkers.
  • Ability to develop accurate standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension is achieved.
     
    Qualifications:
  • Five years of relevant work experience in agricultural mechanics required. Equivalent educational experience may substitute for up to two years of work experience at the discretion of the College.
  • Journeyman-level experience maintaining and repairing John Deere or related equipment desired.
  • Precision Agriculture experience specifically John Deere Ag Management Solutions (AMS)
  • Understanding of CAN BUS and/or controller multiplexing desired
  • Fluent with John Deere Service ADVISOR™
  • General computer experience (Microsoft Office)
  • JDU certifications desired or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Familiarity with Final Tier 4 Emissions Standards desired
Specific Position Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs. from the floor to five feet above floor level.
  • Ability to operate John Deere equipment.
  • Ability to climb into and out of equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for training purposes is required.

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This is a 210-day full-time tenure-track faculty position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. Candidates are subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.  The ability to obtain a Vocational Teaching Certificate within one (1) year of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution and requires direct deposit for payment of salary.
 
Compensation
The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate's placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $62,265- $68,479 for a 210-day contract, dependent on qualifications. The College has an excellent faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development.
