Job Summary

Supervises all scene shop activities and performs carpentry duties as related to the building of scenery and other elements in accordance to drawings and discussions with various designers and faculty members.

Essential Duties

1. Teach tool usage and safety practices to technical theatre students.
2. Build production sets; produce and fabricate shows at the PACE theatre.
3. Supervise students and technical production staff in several aspects of set production.
4. Maintain and inspect all equipment.
5. Schedule fabrication to meet production deadlines.
6. Maintain shop inventory and order supplies as needed.
7. Maintain shop/storage facilities and equipment.
8. Collaborate with facilities and other staff on maintenance, troubleshooting and project consulting.
9. Collaborate with Theatre program to strengthen and expand the program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Art & Sculpture, Theatre, Theatre Technology, Design or related field.
3 years in educational or professional theatre with demonstrated practical knowledge of tools, techniques, and traditions of stagecraft.
Thorough knowledge of the collaborative process in theatrical carpentry and construction techniques such as tool maintenance and safe use practices, electrical safety, welding and metalworking.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Experience reading and producing scale drawings (including CAD).
Ability to work flexible hours.
Ability to work with several different media in construction of sets and props.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education.
