JOB TITLE: DEPUTY CLERK

REPORTS TO: JOSH ELDRIDGE, JACKSON COUNTY CHANCERY CLERK
RATE OF PAY: $15.00 + DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE, BENEFITS POSITION: This position is responsible for the daily operation of the Land Records Department in accordance with Jackson County Chancery Clerk policies and procedures
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Review and process various documents for recording, including but not limited to Deeds, Deeds of Trust, Assignment, Releases, Powers of Attorney and Military Discharge
•Assist public, attorneys and abstractors at the counter, by phone, fax and email
•Pick up and drop off mail, process outgoing mail
•Post notices at main court house
•Take deposits to one or more banks
•Assist with locating and accessing record books and online documents in vaults
•Communicating with law offices, lenders for additional information or corrections needed during record processing
•Operate plotter to make copies of plats for public
•Assist Veterans with DD-214 forms (Military Discharge form)
•Issue ticket books to Sheriff deputies
•Load funds onto copy accounts, cards and escrow accounts
•Balance daily deposits and delinquent tax payments
•Assist customers with delinquent taxes and homestead chargeback
•Assist customers with passport applications, photographs and process Passport applications
•All other projects assigned by Land Records Supervisor, Chancery Clerk or Administrative Staff
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
•Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees
•Ability to communicate well and understand written or oral instructions and read, analyze and interpret documents, instruction manuals, policies and procedures
•Must have strong Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Word, Excel
•Knowledge of office procedures, equipment and terminology is essential
•Ability to perform various tasks under disaster recovery conditions
•Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly
•Must be able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned
•Strong recordkeeping and filing skills are required
•Ability to use logical reasoning to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form
•Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality is essential for this position
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•High School Diploma or its equivalent
•Minimum of two (2) years previous experience in real estate and legal is preferred
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENT:
•This position does not supervisor employees
