County Highway Engineer

The Monroe County Road Commission is currently seeking a County Highway Engineer. The County Highway Engineer plans and directs the operations of the engineering department, supervises departmental personnel, directly or through subordinates and participates in designing and implementing Road Commission construction projects and associated responsibilities. He/she recommends short and long range construction plans and their priority, works with the rest of the management team to set policies and resolve road commission issues, and interacts closely with the other Road Commission departments. Salary negotiable. Minimum qualifications required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field, registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan, and valid driver’s license to operate vehicles in Michigan.

Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years professional engineering experience Knowledge of construction inspection and testing procedures, knowledge of roadway and bridge design, of MDOT and AASHTO design requirements and procedures, and MDOT and FHWA construction and record-keeping requirements, including field manager.
