GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Restricted Funds Accountant is responsible for all accounting activities related to the organization’s permanent and temporarily-restricted endowment funds, including periodic financial reporting. 

The National Ministries United Church of Christ embraces telework and allows employees to work a hybrid schedule as reviewed and approved by their supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Records monthly investment activity including the preparation of journal entries
  • Analyzes and reconciles investment accounts to the general ledger
  • Performs quarterly allocation of investment income and fees for over 800 permanent endowment funds
  • Reconciles permanent endowment funds to the general ledger
  • Calculates annual distributable income from permanent endowment funds
  • Prepares correspondence and check requests for endowment income distributions to outside Organizations
  • Prepares periodic financial reports of endowment fund activity for internal and external users
  • Prepares year-end schedules and footnote disclosures related to endowment funds for external audit
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting
  • At least 3 years work experience in accounting positions
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting software (Blackbaud Financial Edge is preferred)
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge and experience working with non-profit organizations and fund accounting
  • Familiarity with contributed income: unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and permanently restricted and their unique recognition requirements
  • Working knowledge in creating and using complex spreadsheets
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret accounting reports, write reports and business correspondence
  • Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment
  • High degree of confidence with technology and experience with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
  • High attention to detail, follow-up, self-motivated, proactive and solution focused
  • Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to function in a high volume, performance-oriented environment
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with colleagues and the general public in a personable and professional manner
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
