Atkins North America, Inc. has an opening for a Tunnel Inspection Engineer working in Orange, California. Under direction of senior engineers, apply civil engineering principles to achieve planning, scheduling, and coordination of detailed phases of engineering work pertaining to tunnel inspections and underground utility installation. This includes project planning through engineering design, environmental assessment, evaluation studies, construction, stress analysis, and operations, as well as assembly and start-up of tunnel boring machines. Under supervision of senior staff, investigate engineering problems, coordinate civil engineering project activities, and prepare preliminary plans and documents to various tunnel design projects, using finite element and structural software used for tunnel structural analysis. Observing construction procedures under the guidance of a more experienced professional, convey design intent through engineering drawings and specifications of tunnels and underground utility installation and inspection. Translate engineering plans and specifications into constructed engineered product, and provide civil engineering services during construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with specifications; preparing records and progress reports defining construction progress; and evaluating the results from quality control testing. Requires: Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent foreign degree. Also requires two (2) years of experience in applying civil engineering principles to tunnel inspections and underground utility installation, including project planning through engineering design, environmental assessment, evaluation studies, construction, stress analysis, and operations, as well as assembly and start-up of tunnel boring machines, at least one year of which included the use of FLAC and Superstress software.
