Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Caernarvon Township Municipal Sewer Authority is seeking to fill the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/ Operator-in-Training. This position will work under the general supervision of the Authorities Superintendent assisting in all facets of the operation. The position will work independently observing approved policies and procedures. This will include regular inspections of the plant, performing basic maintenance tasks, collecting wastewater samples, and performing routine laboratory analysis on wastewater samples, operating the biosolids processing operation and taking needed measurements to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant.

Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with the Authorities Superintendent to maintain compliance with all permit requirements issued by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and all other regulatory agencies. Assist in the analysis of wastewater, sludge, and effluent samples to provide data for efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Comply with Sewer Authority policies and procedures including but not limited those outlined in the Employee Handbook, and Safety Policy. Perform all duties in a safe manner; adhere to work rules, regulations, and security standards as established by the Caernarvon Township Municipal Sewer Authority.

Physical and Environmental Demands and Conditions: The following demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary to perform the various duties and responsibilities of this position. Work is frequently performed either alone or with frequent interruptions, either inside in a normal office environment, or in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. The employee is frequently required to engage in physical activity and must be capable of frequent moderate lifting and occasional heavy lifting. While per the duties of this position the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as frequent stair climbing, bending, and reaching. The work schedules are frequently irregular, and employee must be willing to work outside normal term hours as required, including occasional twenty-four hour on-call status and alternating weekends.

Education and Skill Requirements: Be able to read instructions, read maps, read blueprints, read rules, etc. Be capable of communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; prepare accurate records, basic math skills. Must be able to follow instructions, policies, and procedures; keep accurate records; and be accountable and responsible for own work. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required. Basic Computer skills required. Valid PA State driver's license is required. Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug alcohol screening.
