This is a newly funded fulltime position, subject to funding approval by the King County Council. 

Supervisor: Teresa Potter 
Salary: Range 49 - $30.6775 (Step One) - $38.8857 (Step Ten) hourly*
Location: 1191 Second Avenue, Seattle
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This position will be primarily telecommuting. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

This is a regular paralegal position (not special duty) 

Job Duties

The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of support tasks that require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment along with the ability to anticipate needs and appropriately respond.  Candidates must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of clients and County staff; analytical and critical thinking skills to make decisions and initiate action; time management skills to effectively and accurately handle multiple tasks within often short deadlines; and the ability to handle emergency situations and work under pressure.   Strong computer skills using Advanced MS Word, Adobe Pro, Outlook and Excel required.  Working knowledge of Legal Files desirable.  Civil litigation experience is required.  Interest in and knowledge of personal injury, employment, and environmental litigation highly desirable.

  • Research, investigate, compile and document pertinent information related to allegations contained within tort and employment lawsuits filed against King County.
  • Read and summarize deposition transcripts, medical records, employment records, and other documents as required.
  • Oversee all aspects of case organization, including analyzation and preparation of complex discovery, conduct document collections, and document reviews, manage electronic discovery, and trial preparation.
  • Draft, prepare and respond to a variety of legal documents such as complaints, answers, briefs, discovery, motions, etc.
  • Draft and prepare letters, memos and other correspondence.
  • Attend Equity and Social Justice trainings including discussions.
  • Perform related work as required.

  • Knowledge of legal office practices and procedures
