Building Inspector / Code Enforcement Officer

Municipality of Bethel Park is seeking to fill the position of Building Inspector / Code Enforcement Officer. This position assists with the administration of commercial and residential building code enforcement activities under the State Wide Building Code (Uniform Construction Code), in addition to the code enforcement of municipal zoning and property maintenance ordinances.

Responsibilities include: plan review of construction documents, construction inspections, issuing permits, records maintenance, responding to public requests for service and addressing residents' concerns, enforcing regulations with violation notices and prosecution methods, attending and coordinating Zoning Hearing Board meetings and Building and Fire Code appeals when necessary. Must maintain knowledge of all current legislation, rules and regulations of the PA Uniform Construction Code. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with residents, contractors, architects, engineers and the general public. Must hold or be able to obtain the following UCC certifications within 6 months of hire: (15) Building Inspector, (20) Mechanical Inspector, (22) Energy Inspector, (23) Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, (24) Building Plans Examiner, (26) Mechanical Plans Examiner, (28) Energy Plans Examiner and (29) Building Code Official. 3-5 years of relevant experience and Engineering degree is preferred.
