Music Therapist-Therapeutic Recreation-Cle Hts

Location: Cleveland Heights Health Center

Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: 8-4:30p

Job Summary:

Provides comprehensive clinical music therapy services, including assessment and treatment under the Scope of Practice of the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT); works collaboratively with the clinical care team and assists the Arts in Health Department as needed to develop and evaluate music therapy programs, initiatives, and research. Patients may include neonates through the geriatric population. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Responsibilities:

Contributes to patient safety by:

a. Providing a safe environment for patients.

b. Reporting safety concerns, errors, and near misses.

c. Participating in system improvement initiatives to prevent errors.

d. Providing evidence-based care as applicable to the role.

1. Provides comprehensive clinical music therapy services by:

a. Designing, implementing, and evaluating music therapy interventions to address the biopsychosocial needs of patients and families as appropriate under the Scope of Practice of the Certification Board for Music Therapists.

b. Conducting individual and group therapy sessions.

c. Performing patient screening assessment(s) by obtaining all pertinent patient information, including past medical history, from the chart(s) and appropriate staff.

d. Implementing age-appropriate and diagnosis-specific treatment interventions based on the assessment of the patient.

e. Developing and incorporating patient and family education into the therapy program(s).

f. Evaluating response to and effectiveness of treatment program(s), and appropriately modifying intervention(s) at regular intervals.

g. Establishing measurable and objective functional goals and treatment plan(s) that reflect the assessment data.

h. Documenting in the Electronic Medical Record and maintaining all clinical records, files, and patient statistics.

i. Ensuring compliance with the individual, team, and discipline-specific productivity target measures.

2. Provides program education and supervision by:

a. Serving as a clinical and educational resource and assisting in developing and utilizing music therapy materials to educate staff, patients, families, other professionals, and the community regarding music therapy.

b. Assisting in the clinical education, supervision, and evaluation of music therapy students, interns, and fellows.

c. Assisting with instructional in-services to the MetroHealth System personnel.

3. Communicates effectively and appropriately with patients, families, and hospital staff at all levels.

4. Upholds the standards of the system-wide customer service program.

5. Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

6. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy.

One year of experience as an MT-BC in a clinical setting.

Certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).

Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and musical skills

Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Behavioral Health Hospital:

Completion of De-Escalation training within the first 60 days of employment

Experience working with adolescent through geriatric patients

Preferred:

Two years of clinical experience as an MT-BC in a medical or Behavioral health setting.

Physical Demands:

May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.

Standing and walking at least 75% of the time; sitting less than 25% of the time.

Finger dexterity to operate office equipment is required.

Hand and finger dexterity and reaching with arms and hands at least 75% of the time.

Pushing and pulling at least 75% of the time.

Lifting 5-25 pounds, carrying 5-10 pounds, and pushing up to 75 pounds.

See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Ability to communicate face-to-face, via phone, email, and other communications.

Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
