Mission

The mission of the Program Manager (Release Train Engineer at EBSCO) is to plan, prioritize, direct, coordinate and align the efforts of multiple agile software development teams on an Agile Release Train (ART) in order to optimize the throughput of deliverables that meet customer needs, while optimizing business value. The Release Train Engineer will support the Lean Enterprise Office in the execution of product and software delivery with the use of Agile and Lean tools, practices, and principles.   The Release Train Engineer will liaise with the planning department, Product Management, and Engineering in the building and execution of the product roadmap for applicable initiatives.  The Release Train Engineer partners with Technology and Product Management to build and support high performing teams and drives all ART practices to ensure teams are highly functioning and well synchronized so that the work is prioritized and executed as planned.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee an Agile Release Train in the planning, prioritization, and coordination of work in an effort to optimize business value at the ART and Value Stream Level  
  • Work with Scrum Masters and other Release Train Engineers to “own” and be held accountable for the flow of value across a program
  • Coach, mentor and reinforce Lean and Agile best practices with your ART teams, stakeholders and peers 
  • Utilize existing data and metrics to understand team or ART level progress and/or potential areas of concern to drive continuous improvements
  • Support your ART’s current delivery of working software, while balancing your time by also collaborating with program leadership team members to prepare the backlog of upcoming work
  • Proactively communicate progress, decisions, impediments, and risks
  • Identify opportunities for training, and adoption of Lean management principles and practices across EIS.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and governance that will help us grow our continuous improvement culture and improve our operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Project/Program Management or Scrum Master role
  • 3+ years prior experience with facilitating software development teams within a Lean-agile software product development method, such as Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe
  • Basic understanding of Lean and Agile principles, metrics
  • Lean and/or Agile certifications 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scaled Agile Framework Knowledge
  • Scaled Agile Framework certifications  
  • Experience as a Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer
