Summary

The Community Health Services Division of King County's Department of Public Health (DPH) is looking for a talented individual to join the Downtown Public Health Clinic Team. This Nurse Supervisor or Personal Health Services Supervisor (PHSS) will be part of Downtown Public Health Clinic Leadership team and will be accountable for the oversight and supervision of the Pathways Clinic that serves vulnerable individuals with opioid use disorder, including those living unsheltered, recently released from incarceration, and with co-occurring severe mental illness.  

Pathways Clinic provides low barrier medication for Opiate Use Disorder and primary care services for this underserved population. The position is responsible for the hiring and daily supervision of Public Health Nurses, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, Social Workers, and Community Health Workers. This position will be involved in leading program improvements and evaluation overseeing service expansion at a dynamic and growing clinic in a newly remodeled space, and may provide back-up coverage for other nursing supervisors within Downtown Seattle Public Health Center.

Job Duties

Job Duties:

  • Direct supervision of the staff assigned to services and programs at a Public Health Center to include: hiring, performance evaluations, training, counseling, team building and discipline of staff.
  • Lead program planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation
  • Guide staff and lead activities at Public Health Centers, satellite clinics, and other community locations as needed.
  • Provide support and training to staff regarding use of reflection, trauma informed practices and reduction of secondary trauma.
  • Work collaboratively with the community and other agencies to assess the public's needs, assist in development of program goals and objectives and implementation of programing.
  • Monitor budgets for assigned programs, review and authorize expenditures.
  • Perform Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance work, including chart reviews, to ensure compliance with clinical service. 
  • Work collaboratively with the lead physician to ensure patient workflow and supervision of the care team. 
  • Work closely with the Program Manager regarding funding, data and performance measures, and program requirements. 
  • Coordinate, review, and process patient satisfaction and patient grievance surveys and reports, including conducting investigation, analyzing findings, and resolving patient concerns and complaints as needed. 
  • Lead and assist team members on continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist others to identify performance measures that meet the needs of their work and to make the measures visual.
  • Coordinate schedules for UW addiction medicine fellows, including onboarding of new UW fellows each year and all work associated to closing out work as they complete their fellowship. 
  • Analyze data, review policy, procedures, and guidelines; organize and write findings, recommendations, manuals, and reports. 
  • Organize meetings and present relevant topics to clinical and non-clinical audiences. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited school 
  • Washington State Registered Nurse License in good standing.
  • Proof of current BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers (Attach if current)
  • Washington State Driver’s License of ability to travel within designated territory.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of trauma and trauma-informed treatment interventions
  • Advanced training in nursing administration or public health, or comparable experience 
  • Professional experience in personnel supervision, management techniques, and fostering a collaborative and highly effective team environment
  • Professional experience, training, or knowledge of mental health, substance use disorders (SUD), medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), low barrier medical care, and harm-reduction
  • Experience providing guidance in a community-based program
  • Knowledge of program development, evaluation techniques, quality improvement processes, and implementation of innovative solutions to service delivery
  • Knowledge of occupational health, handling of hazards, and safety principles
  • Knowledge of and experience in workflows, job aides, and Electric Health Patient Record (EPIC) training. 
  • Skilled in coordinating teams with multi-disciplinary staff
  • Skill in working effectively with diverse individuals and populations 
  • Ability to work on several projects/tasks simultaneously 
  • Knowledge of general government principles, procedures, relevant agencies, community service providers and programs, and other related systems
  • Demonstrated competency using MS Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Work Location: Downtown Seattle Public Health located at  2124 4th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121. This position will require travel to other sites within the Public Health System as needed.

Work Schedule: This is a fully benefited 1.0 FTE.  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime.  This is an onsite/in person position.
