Position Summary

The Pharmacy Manager will work under the direction of Ambulatory and Retail Pharmacy Services Director to develop, oversee, and maintain high-quality, cost-effective, integrated transitions of care program for UH Health system. To align with our Zero Harm initiative, the Pharmacy Manager will lead efforts to standardize medication reconciliation operations system wide to decrease medication errors and readmission rates.  The Pharmacy Manager will exercise management responsibilities to meet the needs of patients, providers, and staff consistent with UH values and the mission statement.

 

Reporting Relationship

The position will report directly to the Director of Ambulatory and Retail Pharmacy services

 

Essential duties and Responsibilities

The primary job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Responsible for management of clinical pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, budget process, project implementation, human resources management and committee representation
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, implementing and monitoring financial controls to ensure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvements, quality management, evidence based outcome and setting the communication tone, values and culture of the health system.
  • Demonstrate progressive leadership and effective management
  • Leads people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Provides an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts. Treats sensitive or confidential information appropriately. Works to improve and reinforce performance of others. Delegates assignments, clarifies expectations and holds others accountable for achieving results related to their area of responsibility
  • Encourages workforce engagement by building a commitment to excellence. Works collaboratively toward solutions that accomplish organizational objectives
  • Relevant metrics – Readmission rates, Meds2Beds participation, HCAHPS
  • Develop virtual, 24/7 program to serve entire health system
  • Medication optimization and coordination with primary care
  • Works in conjunction with community-based pharmacy residency program and coordinates efforts within all of Ambulatory and Retail Pharmacy Services

Qualifications and Required experience

  1. Registered Pharmacist and eligible for license in the state of Ohio required.
  2. Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy residency or a graduate degree (i.e., MBA) or prior supervisor experience preferred.
  3. Must possess and demonstrate excellent communication skills; leadership skills; self-initiative, innovative, and collaborative skills; analytical and organizational skills.
  4. Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with UHHS Health Care Core Behaviors.
  5. Lean or Six-Sigma training/certification with demonstrated application of its principles is preferred.

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrates an ability to utilize effective communication, presentation, financial management, and analytical skills, exhibiting a record of self-initiative, strategic thinking, successful planning, and innovation.
  • Able to work collaboratively with health care executives, providers, and administrators.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in various areas of pharmacy, including but not limited to: operations, systems, technology, and personnel management
  • Demonstrates an ability to apply and utilize knowledge of quality management process, regulatory compliance, accreditation, healthcare laws, integrated care delivery system related to pharmacy, medicine, and nursing.
  • Proficient with using computers as needed to monitor and report financial and operational performance.
