The School of Social Work has an outstanding opening for a Research Scientist in the field of child welfare who will have an opportunity to conduct research to answer critical that addresses real world problems, specifically building and testing out new and innovative models that are designed to increase child safety, permanency and well-being.  This Research Scientist will work with child welfare researchers and advocates across multiple states, and findings from this research will be directly impact federal government funding priorities and decisions in the field.  IF you are a researcher who wants to focus your time on building innovations that lead to national impact, this is the job for you!

The Research Scientist will oversee multiple grants. The research projects propose to 1) develop a state-of-the art training program, equipping resource parents (prospective foster/adoptive/guardianship parent(s)) with the skills necessary to meet the needs of older youth who have moderated to serious emotional and behavioral health challenges and 2)  with the skills necessary to meet the needs of children in care; 3) conduct a rigorous evaluation of the current Washington State Kinship Navigator program to assess and build program infrastructure and consistency to develop a promising practice program with sustainable funding; and 4) conduct a randomized control trial of an mobile app to prevent HIV acquisition among youth.

The Research Scientist will evaluate interventions; manage and analyze data and summarize results; perform data analysis; complete systematic literature reviews; draft, develop and assist with writing scientific manuscripts and reports; prepare and present presentations at scientific and community meetings; prepare and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements; assist with development and design of interventions; and write grant proposals related to Native American health disparities and youth in child welfare systems.

Under supervision of the Principal Investigators, this person will assist in identifying existing literature evaluating clinical trials and program evaluation and address research gaps in health disparities and inequities research, HIV risk, substance misuse, and child welfare programs among youth. The Research Scientist should be able to complete tasks under limited supervision and work collaboratively with other team members to accomplish organizational goals. This position will develop a knowledge base designed to improve health and well-being in historically underserved communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and analyze intervention and related data and summarize results (20%)
• Draft, develop and assist with writing scientific manuscripts and reports (25%)
• Perform systematic literature reviews; identify, review, and synthesize exiting literature and address and articulate research gaps (25%)
• Assist with writing grant proposals (10%)
• Prepare and present presentations at scientific and community meetings (10%)
• Responded to IRB requirements and manage IRB documents, (10%),

REQUIREMENTS:
• Master Degree in psychology, public health, social work, nursing or other related health sciences or social sciences
• Ability to know and use the fundamental concepts, practices and procedure of a particular field of specialization; continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application.
• At least 2 years of experience in psychology, public health, social work, psychology, nursing or other related health sciences or social sciences
• A least 3 years research experience with Native American populations
• At least 3 year experience with random control trial (RCT) studies and intervention studies
• Working knowledge of  programs and policies related to child welfare systems
• Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol development and management experience
• Strong data analysis skills with quantitative data
• Evidence of managing multiple data collection efforts across multiple projects and research designs
• Experience with statistical software e.g. Stata, R, SASS and SPSS
• 2 years of more expertise in programming survey and data collection software such as RedCap, Qualtrics, QDS,
• Evidence of strong oral presentation skills
• Experience in conducting literature reviews
• Evidence of knowledge and experience writing grant proposals
• Must be willing to travel to conferences and/or community events approximately 3-6 times per year
• Ability to efficiently multi-task and complete multiple projects in a timely manner
• Ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with non-technical faculty and staff, and community members Work well independently and within a collaborative environment
• Complete other tasks as assigned
