Conservation Technician/Dam Maintenance Technician

The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District (SVSWCD) has openings for a Conservation Technician and a Conservation/Dam Maintenance Technician.  These employees are responsible for performing a wide range of administrative and technical duties that pertain to the implementation of the SVSWCD’s activities, services and programs. The Conservation Technician positions will focus on the implementation of the Virginia Agricultural Cost Share Program and will require some outdoor work on agricultural operations. The Dam Maintenance Technician position will also be responsible for a wide range of administrative duties that pertain to the operation and maintenance of the SVSWCD’s eight dams. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.  Requirements for the positions include: proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, multitask in a fast paced environment, prioritize, be a self-starter, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ideal applicant will also have knowledge of non-point source pollution control activities, agricultural operations, soil and water conservation issues, and agricultural best management practices.  Employment is conditional upon successful completion of federal and state background checks.  Hiring range: $34,000-$48,000 commensurate with experience and abilities. Benefits package includes health insurance, retirement, and paid leave.
