With the proper knowledge, experience and certification to provide the highest quality of banquet service to all internal and external guests daily. A banquet captains should handle oneself in the most professional and responsible manner with a can-do attitude at all times. He/she will follow grooming and uniform standards and follow all other company policies and procedures outlined in the Banquet training manual and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort associate handbook. The banquet captain is completely in charge of function(s) on a daily basis and is entrusted to ensure that all Nemacolin Woodlands Resort service requirements are exceeded to ensure five-star/ five-diamond service.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures that the resort customer service standards are exhibited for the internal and external guests and maintained at an exceptional level.
  • Leads by example and follows precisely the goals and objectives of the banquet department, food and beverage operation and resort as a whole and assist associates in doing the same.
  • Responsible for holding pre and post shift meetings with all servers and bartenders, so as to inform them of current events, core standards, and timeline and goals of the event they are leading. It is at these meetings they will ensure that all associates are following grooming standards, operating standards, and goals and objectives problems to resolve the problem(s) is required.
  • Possess the ability to file, organize, inventory, discipline, manage, lead and be consistent with all associates on a daily basis.
  • Create a positive environment through working, teaching, training and coaching and demonstrating a positive attitude at all times.
  • Make a conscience effort to attend all scheduled training and meetings so that they will be in tune with all current goals and policies.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Accountable for requisitioning of products needed and monthly inventories.
  • Check all banquet rooms before the beginning of functions for temperature, lighting, and cleanliness to include: walls, carpet, wood trim, paint, wall paper, chairs, tables and any other defects that might need immediate attention before the beginning of a function.
  • Assume the position of a working supervisor and work along side of the associates while maintaining a supervisory role and status.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Prior banquet service and bartending experience necessary.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, an outgoing personality, organized and be very guest oriented.
  • Experience in all previous levels below them before they practice as a captain at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and remain calm under pressure is required.
  • Knowledge of MICROS, Delphi, Microsoft Office and cash register operations suggested but not required.
  • Use of a cash bank.
  • Ability to carry 20-30 pounds and to stand for duration of 8-10 hours a day.
  • Must be flexible in hours, handle multiple tasks at the same time, be quick and efficient and effectively handle guest situations.

Additional Requirements

  • Provide the ultimate in guest service on all catered events as outlined in the Banquet Manual.
  • Responsible for all aspects of table and beverage service, side work delegation, assigning floor duties and requisitions during and for a catered event. 
  • Ensuring that assigned area meets five star service standards and that all guests’ expectations are being exceeded.
  •  Reliable transportation is required to drive throughout property for certain scheduled events
  • Set the standard for all line level associates by utilizing exceptional leadership skills as a working supervisor.
  • Complete training agenda, obtained qualifying scores on their manual knowledge testing, and completed wine and food certification classes and testing.
