Facilities Designer I

The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Facilities Unit is seeking a Facilities Designer I to assist in the performance of a variety of architectural functions for court and court-related building projects.  Examples of duties include:  Assists with the review, analysis, and comments on plans and specifications transmitted by the Department of Administrative Services for new, existing, and leased facilities; assists in preparing recommendations for minor renovation capital projects and cost estimates; assists with the inspection of building sites; inspects and evaluates facilities experiencing space shortages; prepares and assists in the preparation of office layouts; attends job-site meetings as requested; acts as a liaison with the Department of Administrative Services for capital projects; prepares sketches and detail drawings for minor improvement projects; reviews plans with judges, court personnel, and local officials; assists with selection of furniture, carpet, drapes, and finishes for projects; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.  Candidates should possess:  Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of architectural design and the design aspects of building modification and construction; knowledge of space planning and design; knowledge of space planning and design; knowledge of building materials and components; knowledge of state and local building codes; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to design, prepare details, and write specifications for various types of buildings; ability to estimate project costs.

Salary Range: $78,792 - $103,278/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits. 

New employees begin at the minimum.  The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 

General Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the preparation of architectural designs and project documents for various types of building design projects.

Substitutions Allowed: College training in Architecture or Engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree

Special Requirements: Incumbents are required to travel in the course of their daily work.
