Job Description

This position will be housed in Alexandria, but will have job responsibilities in Loudoun, Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria counties. Alexandria City is located adjacent to Washington, DC. Alexandria is a historic and cultural city of about 135,000 people. It's population reflects a diverse people racially, economically, with millennials claiming the largest age group. The VCE unit office is housed in the Lee Community Recreation Center. The Family and Consumer Sciences faculty position will work to further health and wellness through education and training.The Extension Agent, FCS, SNAP Education position is a Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) Family Nutrition Program (FNP) position on restricted funds within SNAP-Ed. The Extension Agent will provide overall coordination in planning, developing, and implementing the SNAP-Ed volunteer and community based program within the assigned area. They will also be responsible for development and implementation of programs that will further VCE initiatives; and for building community capacity and forging partnerships in opportunistic areas of improvement for SNAP eligible individuals and families. This position will report directly to the District Director with input from the FNP Volunteer and Food Security Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a nutrition related field from an accredited university or college with the ability to attain a Master's degree by the sixth year of employment; experience recruiting and managing volunteers and implementing effective volunteer education methodologies; experience working collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders, community organizations, and/or Extension Agents and staff to reach limited income populations; experience planning and implementing programs. 

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in leading programs that effectively involve people from different cultural and/or racial, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds; large project management. A Master's degree is preferred.
