Come join the team of Aero Med in Grand Rapids as well as North Flight based out of Traverse City. This manager role will oversee two different teams, one team being the dispatch side which would include 9 staff and the other being the flight nurses and paramedics which would be between 24-25 staff. This team is made up of strong driven individuals with a passion for what they do. This is the busiest flight program in the state of MI and has been in operations since 1987! This manager with have a lot of interactions with the team and help mentor team members. This department has both a fixed wing and rotor wing program as well as Sikorsky S-76 C++ Helicopters.

Job Summary

Assumes 24/7 accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the air medical program. Develops policies, procedures and processes in coordination with other leaders and the medical director to ensure the highest quality services are provided at all times to all customers. Assures presences of a supportive and healthy work environment that promotes retention and embraces diversity. Key responsibilities include department goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resources development, performance improvement, maintenance of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships, and ensuring the program meets the requirements of accrediting bodies.


Essential Functions

  • Maintains qualifications and performs all clinical duties and responsibilities of a Flight Nurse.
  • Assumes 24/7 accountability for the delivery of quality services by direct supervision of assigned staff and interdisciplinary collaboration. Evaluates patient care and ensures that care is provided in accordance with regulatory, accrediting, and professional practice standards, the philosophy, policies and procedures for the Nursing division and organization. Ensures practice is in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code. Develops interdisciplinary relationships to support improvements in care delivery, patient, staff, physician, and EMS satisfaction. Ensures that data collection is accurate, timely, complete, and reflects current medical and industry trends.
  • Facilitates the training and continuing education of staff members. Provides direction and support to these staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates staff. Initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental and organizational policies. Supports a continuous learning environment to ensure on-going education and development opportunities for staff.
  • Collaborates with the NFAM/Aero Med Program Director, staff, medical director, referring/sending facilities, EMS to develop, implement and evaluate services and programs that support patient care delivery. Assists the NFAM/Aero Med Program Director to plan, prepare, implement, monitor the operational and capital budget to ensure sound fiscal management.
  • Collaborates with the NFAM/Aero Med Program Director and the Medical Director to develop and maintain quality monitoring system to continuously monitor and measure the quality, safety, and outcomes of care. Develops and implements quality indicators to evaluate department performance, staff performance, level of practice for specific patient populations and develops and implements improvement plans to correct variances. Participates in and/or facilitates interdisciplinary performance initiatives.
  • Acts as a resource to staff to identify and address ethical issues. Formulates decisions and actions based on ethical principles, using ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice. Evaluates and advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff, and organization data
  • Creates a climate of effective communication and respect for diversity in all interactions. Develops, maintains, and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers and supports staff participation by encouraging shared decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in practice. Serves as a role model, mentor and expert to staff, colleagues, and students. Supports a continuous learning environment to ensure on-going education and development opportunities for staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient and team member safety. Considers safety as the primary factor in all decisions.

Qualifications- required

  • Required Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • 5 years of relevant experience flight
  • 3 years of relevant experience critical care or emergency department nursing
