POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT- Educational Stability Coordinator 

 

DEPARTMENT: Student Assignment Services (SAS) Center, 91 School Street

 

SCHEDULE: Full-Time, 52 weeks, 37.5 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required  

 

SALARY RANGE: $44,162 - $57,433

                                 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: To coordinate the design and implementation of support programs for the SPS homeless student population. 

 

DUTIES:

  • Lead the design and implementation of specific summer progra(s) for SPS homeless students
  • Coordinate with SAS Center Transitional Adjustment Counselor to plan and implement other necessary and beneficial support program/s
  • In conjunction with McKinney-Vento Enrollment Coordinator and Specialist, be able to determine homeless status of students
  • Provide resources for schools to disseminate to homeless students and families
  • Attend webinars and online trainings while providing both SPS and outside agency trainings
  • Maintain appropriate student list/s
  • Coordinate appropriate application process and obtain necessary medical documents
  • Organize and report transportation services
  • Monitor program attendance
  • Coordinate applicable after-school programming
  • Coordinate supply purchases for programming
  • Create a process to disseminate and track coats/ supplies utilizing a referral/order form
  • Collaborate with the United Way to coordinate annual Stuff the Bus campaign
  • Collaborate and provide accurate program data to the SPS Food Services Department
  • Collaborate with Migrant Education Program for afterschool and summer services
  • Collaborate with SPS Attendance Team and Sheriff’s Department
  • Deliver supplies to families who are without transportation
  • Be part of the District Crisis Response Team
  • Become trained in assisting Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking survivors
  • Distribute public notice of educational rights of homeless students to all schools at the start of each school year
  • Represent SPS on various community committees

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  

  • Must have outstanding ability to work within a team environment
  • Requires 2-3 years of experience in the field
  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree required, or educational requirement may be substituted for at least 5 years of experience in relevant field

  • Responsible for coordinating a function or operational effort
  • Position requires some autonomy for decision making and independent judgement
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to work cooperatively with parents, community partners and school personnel
  • Proficiency in computer operations, including but not limited to, Microsoft software programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.) Experience with student information (PowerSchool) and financial (MUNIS) systems highly desirable.
  • Ability to identify needs of diverse populations and connect those needs to specific resources

 KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Springfield Public School district processes, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of different areas of grade levels (grades, credits, and discipline)
  • Knowledge of students needs including Individual Education Plans and 504s
  • Ability to handle common inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to provide positive and effective customer service
  • Ability to adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
  • Ability to apply listening skills, work under pressure, address conflict and solve problems
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret standard, policies, procedures and regulations

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer keyboard, monitor, copies, scanners, and telephone

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 

This position requires employee be in an office or similar indoor environment.  Employee is often exposed to individuals who are rude or irate and sometimes exposed to individuals with known violent backgrounds or communicable diseases.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Bilingual ability (written and oral) a plus
  • Willing to work a schedule which coincides with the operational needs of the SAS Center
  • Overtime is required during busy season(s)
