Job Summary

The Senior Academic Advisor serves as a liaison to the academic divisions to provide students with specialized program planning. Responsibilities include advising an identified case load of students, tracking student success in an effort to increase retention and completion rates, monitoring case loads of students and providing proactive advising assistance to at-risk students.

Essential Duties

1. Provide academic advising services for assigned academic programs areas to an identified case load of students, assisting them with educational and career planning.
2. Serve as a direct liaison to assigned Academic Division and/or Academic Programs, including academic administrators, faculty and/or faculty advisors.
3. Provide training to faculty advisors in assigned program areas.
4. Provide computerized degree audits to advisees.
5. Track student academic progress within the designated case load/student population.
6. Communicate with a case load of students at designated times each semester, with a focus on student success, retention and completion.
7. Provide leadership assistance and support services to other TCC program areas such as New Student Orientation, Career Services, Academic Divisions, faculty and staff.
8. Refer students to academic support resources such as tutoring labs and/or faculty.
9. Refer students to personal support services either within the college or in the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Require bachelor’s degree (with seven years’ related experience) or Master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Human Relations, Education, or a related field.

One year of experience advising community college students.

Ability to have positive relationships with personnel at all levels.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings as required.
