Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking to fill several Disease Research and Intervention Specialist (DRIS) positions to support COVID-19 outbreak response. The positions are part of the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Immunization Section (CD-IMMS) and will be assigned to work with the following Investigations teams – COVID Healthcare Response, COVID Community Response, and General Communicable Diseases. Major areas of responsibility include case and outbreak investigation, conducting interviews, data entry, and summarizing investigations. The DRIS work under the direction of a supervisor.
DRIS should be committed to working with diverse populations throughout King County to provide excellent service to people from a broad range of cultures, in accordance with the King County Equity and Social Justice Ordinance and the King County Strategic Plan. The position supports and advances Public Health values for fair and culturally competent service delivery, innovative, effective and efficient application of resources, building a culture of performance and expanding opportunities to seek input, listen and respond to community members.
These positions are open continuously until filled and additional positions may be filled from this candidate pool as they come available. After consulting with the most competitive candidates and with program stakeholders, the program will assign a body of work from the list above to each DRIS hired.
WHO MAY APPLY: This position is open to all qualified candidates. A Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position is open to all King County career service employees who have completed their initial County probation. You must have supervisor approval prior to taking a Special Duty Assignment.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Sunday, 40 hours per week, which may include evenings. This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible where time exceeds 40 hours per week. At Public Health – Seattle & King County, we strive to be accessible to those we serve. This position may require flexibility to accommodate different work schedules and work locations. The DRIS will primarily perform job duties by computer and telephone, but there are limited situations where fieldwork for investigations, including in-person interviews, are required. Overtime during evenings and weekends may be required as part of emergency response. The duration of this Special Duty/Term-Limited Temporary position is through June 30, 2021, with the possibility of extension, dependent upon funding availability. Some of the work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
