You can be part of implementing a new initiative in our region that brings emergency response teams together to improve outcomes and enhance services for people experiencing a crisis! The Marcus Alert Coordinator will lead a high-level, interagency project aimed at guiding implementation of the Marcus Alert System in our region.

What is Marcus Alert Program?

Marcus Alert efforts are purposed to enhance services for people experiencing a crisis related to mental health, substance use, or developmental disability. The Marcus Alert system will guide triage and response levels between 911, regional crisis call centers, law enforcement and the Community Services Board, and establish specialized behavioral healthcare responses to people in need. The Marcus Alert Coordinator will work to collaborate with communities to implement activities required by the Marcus-David Peters Act, named for a young, black, biology teacher killed by police during a mental health crisis. The goal of the Marcus Alert is to provide a behavioral health response to behavioral health emergencies. This is a wonderful opportunity to guide planning and services for a successful program in our region that will make an immediate and visible impact in people's lives! The Coordinator collaborates and maintains positive relationships with leadership from regional emergency response, including 911 Centers, Police, and Sheriff Departments, Crisis Call Centers, and Mobile Crisis Teams. This position will require some evening and weekend availability for consultation. They are responsible for clinical and administrative leadership including:

  • Coordinating with agencies for the implementation the Marcus Alert protocols in our catchment area.
  • Leading regular work group meetings
  • Providing clinical expertise regarding behavioral healthcare services
  • Monitoring progress of the project by collecting and reporting data
  • Submitting information required by the state
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues that come up 

Minimum Requirements:

1.  Education: Master's degree in Human Services or Criminal Justice.

2.  Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a behavioral health or criminal justice setting. Management experience is a plus!

3.  Background Check: Candidates who are offered a position are required to undergo a fingerprint background check and drug screen.
