King County District Court Profile
King County District Court is the largest court of limited jurisdiction in the State of Washington and is currently responsible for processing approximately 200,000+ matters per year with 25 judges and approximately 260 employees in 8 locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail alternative programs, technology and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with King County for court services that are provided by the Court.

Job Summary
The Training Manager works with Court management and human resources to identify training requirements, develop training plans for new and existing employees, and continually evaluate training courses to determine their effectiveness. Leveraging experience with instructional methods, team coaching, and skill development, the manager conducts training and supervises and develops Training Coordinators to ensure that all employees are properly trained and working to carry out Court standards.

Job Duties

  • Prepares course training materials, with information from and in coordination with, Court management to ensure a detailed understanding of training subjects and processes.
  • Collects information from management regarding how well employees retain information and use the concepts learned in training courses.
  • Creates printed and instructional materials to be distributed during training.
  • Continually evaluates training courses to determine the effectiveness of training strategies.
  • Conducts training sessions using a variety of different models including one-on-one, classroom, and/or video.
  • Supervises and develops training coordinators

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study, including but not limited to public administration, court administration, business administration or criminal justice plus five years plus five years progressively responsible management or experience with training methods, adult learning styles, curriculum development or presentation skills; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of the job.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the current processes and procedures of the Court
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to areas of training
  • Knowledge of multiple training methods and adult learning styles
  • Ability to develop training curriculum
  • Ability to be an effective facilitator in a group setting
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and deadlines
  • Effective oral and written presentation skills
  • Ability to direct and supervise employees
  • Ability to identify needs, develop training plans for employees across an organization, and evaluate results
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization as well as union officials, other court and county employees, and the public

Work schedule:  Regular position working a 40-hour work week.
