Job Summary:

The Dispatcher is responsible for handling calls from internal and external customers requesting courier service and ensuring that customers needs are met through timely and accurate assignment to Upstate Couriers and outside courier companies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer calls from clients and Upstate staff during assigned shift. Assign STAT and other ad hoc runs to couriers to meet the client's needs; Collaborate with Courier Dispatch Manager to modify routes and assignments to accommodate the needs of customer's and Upstate staff; Represent Upstate Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in a positive and professional manner. Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers. Ensure efficient and timely delivery of reports and supplies. Monitor status of time sensitive pickups to ensure timely delivery. Provide after hours on-call coverage on a rotating basis. Handle questions or issues that couriers may have regarding their assigned runs. Oversee vehicle fleet operations including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, ordering supplies, annual inspections, etc. Provide training to new couriers and cross training for all courier staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree and a minimum of 3 years courier dispatch experience, (preferably in a laboratory or medical setting), or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills required. Ability to handle a high volume of telephone calls and work in a fast paced environment required. Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office products required. 

*Candidate must have valid NYS Driver License by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree, extensive knowledge of Syracuse, Onondaga County, and Upstate New York areas preferred. Supervisory and training experience preferred.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, 11:00 am to 7:30 pm; weekends holidays and overtime
