Job Description Summary
The Adult Basic Education adjunct faculty reports to the Adult Basic Education Program Director and is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student the reading, analytical and critical thinking, writing, and math skills that are fundamental to life and work, and in preparing for the GED® exam.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Minimum 2 years of adult education teaching or tutoring experience strongly preferred
  3. Master’s degree and/or teaching certification preferred  

Criteria
CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process. Resume/CV and cover letter are required with the application. Please ensure that your documents address the criteria listed below for this position. 
  1. Align classroom instruction with the program curriculum and prescribed texts.
  2. Prepare lessons incorporating activities that augment text-based lessons.
  3. Prepare and submit lesson plans according to program requirements. 
  4. Monitor students’ progress using formative assessments.
  5. Maintain an appropriate classroom environment.
  6. Track and manage students’ attendance.
  7. Assist students with their education and transition goals.
  8. Participate in student intake and testing, as needed.
  9. Work with the program staff to assure quality instruction.
  10. Meet the program’s mandated participation in professional development 
  11. Participate in team meetings, as necessary.
  12. Comply with program requirements for paperwork, observations, etc. 
  13. Regularly check and respond to emails through college email address.
  14. Other instructional duties, as needed.
  15. Deliver lessons in multiple formats as needed (in-person, online, hybrid). 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Ability to apply principles of Adult Learning Theory into classroom instruction.
  2. Experience with College and Career Readiness Standards, preferred.
  3. Experience with standard Adult Education assessments, preferred.
  4. Experience creating and implementing quality lesson plans.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
  7. Strong computer literacy and demonstrated computer skills.
  8. Patience, flexibility, and ability to work with diverse adult learners.
  9. Experience working with diverse populations
Job Requirements
  1. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department. 
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English. 
  3. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
