Lancaster County has two positions in our Stormwater Department open: Stormwater Inspector and Staff Engineer. 

• Stormwater Inspector

Position Objectives:

Under the supervision of the County Engineer, performs a variety of activities including: technical on-site construction inspection for development projects, coordination with contractors to achieve compliance with water local, state, and federal water quality standards, surface water sample collections, meeting with residents concerning drainage concerns and/or corrective measures implementation, performing basic field survey to establish topographic and/or physical constraints associated with potential infrastructure projects. 

Minimum Requirements:

Degree in Construction management, civil engineering technology, environmental science or a related field. Minimum of five years of experience related to environment or water quality preferred any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Certified erosion control inspector or capable of obtaining either, CEPSCI or CPESC certifications within first year of employment.  A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.  

 

• Staff Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the County Engineer, the staff Engineer reviews proposed development projects for compliance with County ordinances and permitting requirements.  The staff engineer will also evaluate problem areas and produce and implement designs for construction of public infrastructure projects and programs.  The staff engineer should have a working knowledge of utility and stormwater engineering and general civil engineering services including storm drainage, roads, bridges, aviation, traffic engineering, and public facilities.

Desirable Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a ABET accredited four-year college or university required and Pass the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam. Applicant must have two years of engineering experience.  Advanced degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience valid state motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record.
