Summary

The HIV/STD Program is seeking two (2) Community Outreach Specialists to help make free condoms more available and accessible in Seattle & King County. 
 
The Condom Distribution Pilot Project aims to increase the availability, accessibility, and acceptability of free condoms in diverse communities and varying venues to promote condom use to decrease the transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). This position is responsible for monitoring and replenishing established Condom Cubes, and assisting in the recruitment of businesses, organizations, and other community locations to participate in the Condom Distribution Project. Community Outreach Specialists will also process returned condom inventory, prepare materials necessary for outreach, maintain the project’s supply stocked and organized, and deliver condoms to community-based organization and non-profits.
 
These full-time TLT positions are open to all qualified applicants.

Job Duties

  • Assemble Condom Cubes for placement at local businesses, organizations, and publicly accessible sites in King County
  • Recruit businesses, organizations, and other community locations to participate in the Condom Distribution Project
  • Assist with weekly community outreach plans 
  • Conduct community outreach with team members to achieve project goals 
  • Monitor and refill established Condom Cubes
  • Process returned condom inventory
  • Assemble a variety of condom cases and kits in preparation for community outreach 
  • Prepare materials necessary for outreach
  • Distribute bulk condoms to community-based organizations and HIV/STD Program partners
  • Complete monthly inventory counts of project supplies 
  • Maintain project supplies and work area cleaned, stocked, and organized
  • Collect and record data using established protocols and templates
  • Provide sound, accurate, and culturally appropriate sexual health information, educational materials, and other resources to community partners during outreach.
  • Foster effective community and agency partnerships 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
 

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections including HIV 
  • Experience doing community outreach 
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse groups of people in a very brief amount of time
  • Experience working as a health educator
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, businesses, and community partners
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, while remaining organized and detail-oriented in an often-changing environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and working under time constraints
  • Ability to work well in a team-based environment or independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to work with communities of people with varied lived experiences in a non-judgmental manner
  • Basic mathematics skills
  • Comfort approaching community sites to participate in a condom promotion program

  • Skill and comfort approaching individuals or groups to promote the condom distribution project

WORK SCHEDULE: Daytime shifts Monday through Friday.
 
WORK LOCATION: Chinook Building, 401 5th Ave, Seattle WA 98104, and outreach locations throughout King County. This position may require flexibility to accommodate different work schedules and work locations.

Term Limited Temporary (TLT) position anticipated to run through October 2024.
