Description

General Summary:

Works as an integral part of the health care team. Performs all radiographic examinations in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Radiology department. Assists with patient care and back office duties under the supervision of the Supervisor.

Performs dual role as key person for Radiology and back office operations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes and maintains a safe environment conducive to effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes and personal safety.
  2. Accurately performs patient care activities according to age specific criteria.
  3. Uses verbal/nonverbal communication skills that promote effective team functioning and fosters patient/staff interactions.
  4. Maintains the philosophy, goals, objectives, and the policies and procedures of the hospital, department and unit.
  5. Participates in educational experiences to increase knowledge and skills.
  6. Ability to perform x-ray independently and according to age specific criteria using a variety of different X-ray equipment.
  7. Accurately registers and discharges patients according to service standards.
  8. Demonstrates flexibility in prioritizing patient needs.
  9. Maintains X-ray files and supplies.
  10. Maintains X-ray discrepancy log.
  11. Performs quality control and trouble shoots equipment.
  12. Cross-trained to complete other clinical responsibilities. Rooming patients, POC testing, etc.

Radiology Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately carries out the provider x-ray orders in compliance.
  2. Properly completes x-ray paperwork.
  3. Communicates effectively with the patient by explaining the procedure.
  4. Positions the patient correctly in compliance with the procedure book.
  5. Makes correct exposure for patient safety and diagnostic clarity, including correct film markers.
  6. Responsible to assure maximum safety of the patient, self and staff.
  7. Maintains x-ray files, purging as needed.
  8. Performs daily QC on processor and accurately records on QC log.
  9. Monitors QC log for discrepancies.
  10. Troubleshoots x-ray equipment and processor problems.
  11. Capable of independently performing pediatric radiography.
 
Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Medical Assistants must have graduated from a medical assisting program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Medical assistants who do not hold the AAMA certification are eligible for front office positions or positions that are non-clinical in nature and do not require direct patient care as part of their job description.

Experience: One year clinical experience in acute care or an ambulatory setting preferred.

Certificate/License: Proof of graduation from an accredited school of Radiology Technology, Rad Tech. license thru the State of Indiana, and AART certification, preferred.
