CRITERIA FOR CCC PASTOR

 

Charlottesville Church of Christ (CCC) was established in June 1965 under the spiritual leadership of Apostle Rufus Hayes.  The CCC Pastor provides spiritual, pastoral, administrative, vision, and servant leadership to the congregation.  The CCC Pastor relates to and connects with multiple generations and a diverse congregation within Charlottesville, VA. Recognizing the importance of spiritual health and a personal relationship with God, the Pastor takes time for regular prayer, Bible study, rest, and recreation.   

 

Qualification & Requirements

 

Applicants for the position of CCC Pastor must be called by God into the ministry and the pastorate.  The Lord’s heart must be in residence – thusly, there must be a love for God and His flock.  The CCC Pastor proclaims the Word of God in its entirety without reservation.   

 

The CCC Pastor must meet the spiritual and personal qualifications as outlined in Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:22. These qualifications are as follows:

 

1.     Must be the husband of one wife (Note: we invite women and/or singles to apply)

2.     Children must be in submission

3.     Must be a faithful steward (or manager of God’s resources and Jesus’ flock)

4.     Must be humble (not arrogant), gentle, sober, peaceful, hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, and respectable 

5.     Must possess financial integrity and not be greedy

6.     Must be upright, holy, and an example to the flock (I Peter 5:3)

7.     Must be spiritually mature 

8.     Must be knowledgeable of God’s word and apt to teach – must be able to communicate in an excellent manger and teach sound doctrine

 

In addition to being a person of the Word, the CCC Pastor 

 

1.     Must be sensitive to the direction of the Spirit and devoted to daily Bible reading and prayer  

2.     Must be willing to listen to authority and respect the legacy of the church’s founder  

3.     Must be able and willing to work with a congregation of varying levels of experience and spiritual maturity  

4.     Must exemplify leadership qualities and seek positive ways of engaging with the local community

5.     Must be a visionary, good listener, and always have one ear to the ground. 

6.     Must be able to address differences of opinion within a biblical manner.  

 

Personal Skills:

 

a)     Teaching/Equipping – should be a biblical teacher who effectively ‘equips the saints for the work of the ministry’

b)    Administrative – should have the skill set and ability to effectively manage the various administrative tasks associated with the position

c)     Relational – should have a heart that cares for people

d)    Servant Leadership – Jesus Christ is central in whatever context; should be a self-starter and take initiative…must be discerning and wise and know when to be firm, tender, sensitive, and decisive 

e)    Peacemaker – should have the ability to unite people with varying perspectives to advance harmony and love, and to achieve common goal

 

Additional Requirements

 

·      Devout personal faith in Christ with foundational and advanced beliefs rooted in the apostolic doctrine

·      Must be called by called into ministry and the pastorate (repeat)

·      Experience in ministerial works of the church

 

Cover Letter – each applicant should cover the following key points in the cover letter.

o   Reason(s) for interest in position

o   When and how were you called into the ministry of God’s Word 

o   Training you’ve received and by whom

o   Ways in which you’ve been prepared for the position

o   Share your faith and beliefs and how they align with CCC

o   Vision for ways you and congregation might engage with the community

o   Relevant experiences

Resume

References – each candidate must provide 5 references as follows:  

o   Current Pastor

o   Current Auxiliary/Departmental Lead

o   2 members of current congregation

o   Community Organization, former coworker, or former supervisor 

Letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged

Consent to a background check and possess a clean record
