Electric/ Automation Maintenance Technician

The Spokesman-Review is currently seeking an Electric/Automation Maintenance Technician to work on swing shift and provide support, on-call and preventative maintenance on equipment utilized in the production of our paper. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits and theory, computer software, fiber optics, chemical processing, hydraulics, motors and motor controls, conveyors and programmable logic controller. The ideal candidate will be one who is able to troubleshoot equipment, which will require the ability to maneuver around machinery, tight spaces, and work the problem on a production floor. You will work closely with the production team in order to effectively keep the functionality of equipment in operation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform daily inspections of and repairs to production equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on production equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Troubleshoot to the component level on a large variety of electrical-electronic equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical / mechanical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Communicate with and order parts from outside vendors.
  • Perform research to determine cost effective suppliers.
  • Recommend, develop and  implement modifications that will enhance the safe operation of equipment.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

  • Work safely on live electrical circuits with voltages up to 480 vac. Work unsupervised and with other departments to solve equipment problems.
  • Problem solve equipment failures on a variety of production related equipment.
  • Repair circuit boards using soldering techniques for Through-Hole and Surface Mounted Technology (SMD).
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, outside vendors and internal customers.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Work safely in an environment where there is exposure to moving parts, electricity, high places, high noise levels, wet and / or humid conditions, chemicals, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • Work in an environment where there is frequently standing,walking, stopping, kneeling or crawling and able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Applicants have an associate’s degree or two years education from a technical school, plus 5 years related experience working at an electronic technician or equivalent combination.

Benefits:

The position is full-time with a starting wage of $22 per hour (depending on experience), plus benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Vacation, Floating Days, Sick Days, matching 401k and more).
