Mission

The mission of the Digital Product Manager, Flipster is to advance the Flipster app as a market-leading source of quality, digital magazine content for the library industry. They will assist in coordinating and managing the activities that help grow the revenue and profitability of the Flipster product line. The Digital Product Manager, Flipster is a highly collaborative individual who represents the voice of the customer. They are a subject matter expert for the Flipster app, supporting infrastructure and all content within the product line.  They are responsible for assisting the Flipster Product Director in developing and executing on a long-term strategic plan and roadmap based on Flipster’s position within the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC). They must be able to think broadly and holistically, considering longer-term consequences and interdependencies of Flipster within the wider EBSCO Research Database portfolio of products.

 

The Digital Product Manager, Flipster is responsible for providing business context to help with the prioritization of product and feature development. They must establish high performance standards for themselves and demonstrate a strong action orientation, pushing to pick up the pace when time-sensitive work needs to be completed.

 

What You'll Do

Agile Product Development

  • Act as the primary contact for internal development teams on feature development and maintenance of existing products

  • Provide business context and input to prioritization of work across the SAFe ARTs

  • Draft and own Features and Capabilities (work items) for Agile development teams and manage these items throughout the Agile development process

  • Utilize various software tools and programs to manage work items and product roadmaps (e.g. Rally, Miro, etc.)

 

Product Portfolio Management

  • Act as the subject matter expert and content curator for the portfolio of Flipster magazine and journal content; serve as project manager for licensing and content curation initiatives

  • Provide Sales and Marketing support (e.g. product information, RFP support, responses to customer/Sales inquiries)

  • Product Maintenance – own Product Health metrics, i.e. ensure adherence to SLAs for service issue triage and resolution, content currency, completeness and attrition ratios

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows and create efficiencies. Pitch ideas to leadership and if approved, drive implementation.

 

Strategic Planning

  • Execute market and competitive research, monitor the digital magazine industry, and maintain product reviews across Flipster’s native mobile and desktop applications
  • Contribute to the development and execution of growth strategies for Flipster as well as the wider EBSCO Schools & Public Research Database portfolio
  • Engage with customers via interviews, win/loss calls, surveys, presentations, webinars, conferences, advisory boards, etc.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Go-to-Market and long-term strategic planning for Flipster
  • Build cross-departmental relationships with stakeholders and colleagues in Sales, Marketing, Publisher Relations, Content Management, and other Product Management departments
  • Utilize various software tools and programs to gather information and make informed decisions (e.g. Tableau Reports, MagTitle, Access, AppSheets, SubScript, SharePoint, MS Teams, etc.)

 

Near-Term Objectives

  • Time will be evenly split between product portfolio management and strategic-planning projects
  • Ownership of features and capabilities in support of Flipster product development and serving as the Agile Product Manager for Flipster on the Books & Flipster SAFe ART 
  • Under the guidance and mentorship of the Flipster Director - own overall day-to-day maintenance of the Flipster app, content curation, development team and Customer Satisfaction team support
  • Ownership of the execution of the Flipster Flexible Pricing project – driving development across the SAFe ARTs and coordination of related launch, licensing, data management, etc. activities in support of the project

 

Mid-Term Objectives

  • Assist in market analysis, research, and launch activities for long-term strategic initiatives for the Flipster product
  • Potential to own and drive additional projects and business plans on the Flipster long-term roadmap as they arise such as further pricing and packaging projects, the EBSCO new user interface project, the accessibility roadmap, etc.
  • Assist Product Director in long-term strategic planning, financial and opportunity analysis, Globalization planning, annual market reviews, publisher & preferred contract renewals etc.
  • Review and coordination of updates to knowledgebase documentation for Sales, Marketing and Customer Satisfaction support
  • Mid-to-long-term potential to expand product portfolio to other EBSCO Public Library products, particularly within the Reference Center database product line

 

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of software product management experience
  • Experienced in Agile and/or SAFe product development methodologies
  • Experienced in development workflow tools such as Rally, Jira, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and can generate data insights yourself

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pragmatic Institute or similar training preferred
  • Mobile (iOS, Android, web) development experience preferred
  • International experience a plus
  • Library, library sciences or information architecture background a plus
