Position Purpose:  Provide daily care of calves, facilities, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Feed calves milk, grain, and water according to procedures to meet nutrient requirements.
  • Keep calves clean, dry, and adequately bedded.
  • Monitor individual calf health and inform calf team leader or herd veterinarian of any illness observed.
  • Clean and set up calf buildings and hutches as needed.
  • Move Calves.
  • Vaccinate Calves.
  • Take Hip Heights and weights.
  • Keep facilities and equipment maintained and cleaned.
  • Maintain a professional image reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.
  • Follow Trans Ova’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures, wind, and muddy conditions.  Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury.  Due to the nature of the position, an applicant should have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, the ability to be on their feet walking or standing for long periods of time, and the ability to get in and out of calf hutches while working with the animals. This position averages 20-30 hours per week, with a rotation of Friday nights, holiday, and every other weekend.

Other skills/experience:

Prior dairy calf experience is preferred.

Prior experience with farm equipment such as, but not limited to, skid loaders, tractors, manure spreaders, and utility vehicles.
