The Licensed Practical Nurse in the Endoscopy Unit combines the technological of the Operating Room with the patient contact of the Access Units. EU nurses are responsible for admitting and discharging outpatients, intra-procedural monitoring of inpatients and outpatients receiving Moderate Sedation, and assist with procedures such as colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiogram pancreatogram (ERCP). Our unit performs more than 3,000 procedures a year and provides care for patients from newborn to geriatrics. The unit is open Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with call for weekends and holiday coverage.

What you will do:

  • Monitor and assist with procedures, deliver care modalities including care of inpatients while in the department.
  • Collaborative team approach, coordinate and direct care with gastroenterologists, anesthesia staff, colorectal surgeons, bariatric team, and emergency room staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
  • Utilizing the Nursing Process, plans, directs and supervises the care of patients in addition to being involved in the provision of direct care of patients and families.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current LPN licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR/ACLS certification.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Work Environment and Hazards:

  • Clinical setting. Exposure Class I

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work: must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.
