The Institute for Protein Design (IPD) at the University of Washington in Seattle is creating a new world of synthetic proteins to address 21st-century challenges in medicine, energy, and technology. The IPD is a unique interdisciplinary environment where world-class researchers with expertise in computing and software, biochemistry, genome sciences, biological structure, pharmacology, immunology and other basic science disciplines, as well as clinical medicine, work together to both computationally design and experimentally characterize novel biomolecules. Current projects include the design of novel therapeutics for cancer, neurological diseases, and more, as well as new vaccines, nanomaterials, and enzymes. For more detailed information about the Institute for Protein Design please see http://www.ipd.uw.edu/.

The Institute for Protein Design has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 1.

The Research Scientist 1 will support the IPD’s Translational Program. The research activities will involve the execution and analysis of standard protein expression, purification and biophysical characterization methods and data, with eventual independent operation thereof. The RSA TPE will also help manage, maintain and upkeep the Translational IPD laboratories.

In this role, ~80% of the effort will be dedicated to production, optimization and formulation of designed proteins. Bacterial and mammalian protein production will involve interaction with standing IPD Core facilities and staff.

Once expertise is gained, the remaining ~20% of effort will be dedicated to quality control of designed proteins using biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques.
