Summary: 

Responsible for obtaining, abstracting, and entering appropriate patient data, both concurrently and retrospectively on Metabolic and Bariatric patients, in order to maintain a patient data base for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. Ensures work follows the standards of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as established by the American College of Surgeons. Preserves confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the registry files. The acronym MBSCR is also used to refer to this position. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 


Qualifications:

High School graduate or passage of a high school equivalence exam.
Medical terminology and working knowledge of hospital medical records systems.
Strong PC skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher.
Experience working with data registry input and management of information
Excellent keyboarding and data entry skills.
Successful completion MBSAQIP initial training modules with a score of 90% or better within prescribed time frames.
Successfully completes the MBSCR Online Training Program within 30 days of hire.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and must be able to work independently.
Anatomy and physiology course knowledge.

Preferred:
Experience with ICD-9 coding.
RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification.
Experience with Epic Systems.

Physical Demands:
May need to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating.
May need to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to read job related documents.
Ability to use computer
