Position Summary:                        

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent seeks a progressive business leader as Publisher. This individual will be experienced in sales, marketing and content plans. The Glenwood Springs Post Independent publisher must have vision and acumen and executes to the utmost accountability. The ideal candidate is passionate about growing revenue and meeting forecasts while ensuring editorial independence and fostering office camaraderie rivaling any business in our community. The Glenwood Springs Post Independent publisher will navigate this community while fueling excellence in financial and audience growth. The publisher is skilled in media channels and seeks to embrace the changes of a rapidly evolving media industry. The role requires a leader with strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to hit budget, as well as sales management and personal sales skills. The ability to think strategically and work with others to develop and execute plans is essential. The publisher seeks ways to build the profitability of each product for which they are responsible, individually or collectively with colleagues.  The publisher understands that all financial matters, including billing, revenue collections, and profitability, are the solid foundation on which our goals and values are dependent.  The publisher is passionate about all matters related to the mission of community journalism both in print and digital.

As publisher your general responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the division general manager as well as peer managers to identify, develop and execute initiatives in the areas of print and digital sales, new product development, content, distribution and audience targeting, community development
  • Be a role model for your team by directing their daily activities and work and by establishing an environment where every team member can reach their full potential.
  • Primary liaison in the community with expectation of involvement in community organizations and community projects
  • Lead the team in planning short- and long-term strategies to achieve goals and objectives including annual business plans, market analysis, content strategies, and employee/team development
  • Championing audience-targeted journalism that meets and exceeds the expectation of the community served by the GSPI.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in diversified leadership roles, driving and implementing revenue growth.
  • Minimum three years of media-related management experience
  • Experience as a P&L manager and demonstrated business success in a media organization/environment including cost management, revenue development, and new product creation
  • Understanding of financial reports related to media businesses
  • History of decision-making based on business metrics.
  • In the media realm, mastery of digital and web-based marketing and advertising programs in addition to the traditional and legacy print-based program
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment that demands flexibility as to schedule, hours and days worked
  • The ability to connect with all members of the staff as well as all facets of the community
  • The ability to follow established policies and procedures in support of the company’s core values
  • A dynamic, energetic, and positive personality that equates to constantly striving to be the best

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: $95,000-$110,000, dependent on experience.
  • Our comprehensive benefits package includes healthcare insurance (with employee contribution), 401K, recreation benefit, and company-paid life insurance.
