Description of Work

Note:  Employees in these positions will be scheduled for not more than twenty-four (24) hours a week.
An Outpatient Therapist is a professional position, subject to a contract, responsible for an array of clinical services, which include comprehensive assessments and intensive solution-focused therapy for individuals with Substance Use Disorders and/or Mild to Moderate Mental Health Disorders.  Services are generally provided in the clinic sites; however, may include natural community settings, as necessary.  Clinicians are also responsible to provide consultation, linking, monitoring, and coordination activities as clinically necessary for individuals served. The incumbent must be self-directed and function as a team member, and is responsible for providing a number of highly skilled clinical and administrative functions.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1.   Must possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related behavior field; AND, must be a State of Michigan fully licensed Masters Social Worker, or fully Licensed Professional Counselor, or Limited Licensed Psychologist, at time of appointment..   
2.   Have a minimum of one (1) year of previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness, serious emotional disturbance or substance use disorder;
3.   Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
4.   Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.
5.   Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Michigan driver's license within 30 days of employment.
6.   Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
 

Physical Conditions / Work Location

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
A Outpatient Therapist works at the various HealthWest program locations; however, travel to locations within the County may be required.

EVALUATION CONTENT

 Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.  Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system.  For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications.  This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
