Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs/Intercultural Life, the Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to the staff of the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the Carolyn Barber Pierre Center for Intercultural Life. The director’s role focuses on promoting the success of racially underrepresented (BIPOC) undergraduate and graduate students on the uptown and downtown campuses. The Director also recruits, retains, and provides supervision for a team of four full time professional staff members, two graduate assistants, and ten student staff. They will successfully lead the OMA team with a focus on increasing racial equity through empowering currently enrolled students. The Director uses a strengths and advocacy based, trauma informed approach that emphasizes and centers the diverse experiences of marginalized students. They serve as the primary contact for external collaboration with campus and community partners. They are directly responsible for ensuring that students have an opportunity to explore cultural identity development, cultural engagement, and leadership through providing services, advocacy, and programming that complements the student experience and centers their needs and wellbeing. The Director is also expected to offer culturally responsive experiential learning opportunities that support the mission of the office and the Carolyn Barber Pierre Center for Intercultural Life. The person in this role is instrumental in advocating with and fostering a strong sense of belonging, intercultural, and intracultural affinity across the Tulane campus community. The director also provides leadership, guidance and management for the Community Engagement Advocates Program, a social justice education facilitation program.
