Job Description:

Description of Duties:

The Division for Research is an innovative team of administrative professionals dedicated to the delivery of seamless services to our research community striving to increase the University at Albany's visibility in, and resources for, advancing and disseminating knowledge, discovery, and scholarship.  Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) provides a full range of assistance to faculty, staff, administrators, and students in obtaining and administering funding from non-University sources. 

The Research Administrator (RA) manages and supports the research infrastructure, provides stewardship of external funding and is dedicated to providing the best support possible for University researchers. The Research Administrator is responsible for performing diversified and complex administrative functions for various Pre-Award and non-financial Post-Award activities of sponsored awards to ensure conformity with University and Research Foundation (RF) policies, state and federal laws and regulations, and assists with any revisions required as a condition of funding or compliance with sponsor and legal requirements.

The RA will be an active member of the proposal specialist team and/or award management team and serves as the primary point of contact for assigned proposals and/or award management. As the point of contact, the RA establishes a good working relationship with faculty to obtain, review and complete all campus documents pertaining to proposal submission and subsequent award. S/he provides guidance and research administration support to faculty, students and staff by interpreting and applying award terms and conditions, processing awards, and seeking sponsor approval when required.

  1. Works closely and collaboratively with University faculty and staff assisting with proposal preparation to a variety of sponsoring agencies such as federal and state agencies, foundations, and other public entities. Interprets sponsor requirements and guidelines, assists with budget preparation, reviews and approves all proposal documents to be submitted to sponsors for appropriateness and compliance. Review and approval of internal campus documents for proper eligibility, waiver approvals and identification of potential risks. Liaison between faculty and sponsoring agencies on behalf of the Research Foundation. Accepts awards, reviews, negotiates and initiates set-up in Oracle. Coordinates with other Research Division staff to work collaboratively to provide superior, professional service to the campus. 
  2. Participates in the programmatic monitoring of awards, gives guidance to faculty to assure proper stewardship of funds received, works with departmental administrator, and the SPA team throughout the life of a sponsored project. Ensure that PI's submit timely and accurate reports specified in the award. 
  3. Assist in development, implementation and communication of internal operating procedures and practices within SPA and to external participants.  Actively participates in team meetings, system implementation efforts and on-going process improvement. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization with 2-3 years administrative experience related to: (electronic) research administration, research support, federal, state and/or industry related proposal submissions, budget preparation OR six (6) to seven (7) years administrative experience related to; (electronic) research administration, research support, federal, state and/or industry related proposal submissions, budget preparation.
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational and time management skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituency and be customer service oriented.
  • Must exhibit a high level of professionalism and self-confidence to relate to faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in a Higher Education setting with knowledge of regulations that govern federal research funding and related areas of regulatory compliance, federal circulars, and associated typical administrative terms and conditions.
  • Designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Administrator (CPRA)


Additional Information:

Salary Range:  $60,000 - $62,000
