Position Description The Claims Manager shall effectively manage the claims reporting, processing, and settlement function for both the KACo All Lines Fund (KALF) and the Workers Compensation (WC) programs. Duties: - Utilize discretion and independent judgment in the day-to-day management and oversight of the KALF and WC claims third party administrator (TPA). - Monitor and analyze both litigated and non-litigated WC claim files. - Monitor and analyze non-litigated KALF files. - Based upon analysis, determine which claims to deny coverage and report to the Insurance Director and Assistant Director. - Maintain constant communication with TPA adjusters on all WC claim files. - Perform in-person quarterly claim reviews on WC claims with TPA. - Utilize solid decision making in approving or denying recommended reserve changes on non-litigated KALF claims and WC claims with reports to the Insurance Director and Asst. Director. - Make counsel assignment recommendation to Insurance Director on all litigated WC claims. - Compile statistical information for monthly board meetings; create spreadsheets and graphs, and present information to the KALF and WC Boards of Directors at their monthly meetings. - Make recommendations regarding changes to the claims process policies and procedures to the Insurance Director and Assistant Director - Customarily and regularly directs the work of the KACo Insurance Department paralegal in conjunction with the KACo Litigation Manager. - Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: o Basic KSAs - Ten years insurance experience - Knowledge of and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs - Excellent oral and written communications skills - Must be able to work well with others - Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service - Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices - Ability to safely and successfully perform job duties consistent with federal, state and local standards - Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state and local standards - Must be able to routinely sit for extended periods daily - Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds - Overnight travel is required. - Must possess a valid driver's license o Preferred KSAs - College degree in Insurance - Ten years insurance claims experience - Risk Master proficiency
