Job Description
The Commission is seeking a water resource professional with a background in engineering and/or science to work in its Science and Water Quality Management branch. With technical guidance and training, the successful candidate will perform the following activities:
- Apply data science tools and machine learning methods to a wide variety of water resource evaluations, including data visualizations, uncertainty evaluations, component analyses, water predictions and improvements to process-based water resource models;
- Develop data management tools such as processing of model inputs and outputs, using ArcGIS, Python, R, JavaScript and/or similar tools;
- Develop, maintain and improve hydrodynamic and water quality models, including one-, two- and three-dimensional models for conventional and toxic pollutants, of the tidal and non-tidal waters of the Delaware River Basin;
- Apply models appropriately to address water resource questions such as the impacts of climate change on habitat or the impacts of point or nonpoint source improvements on water quality;
- Support planning and regulatory activities of the Commission that require models;
- Prepare effective reports and presentations of technical material for advisory committees, the public, the regulated community and government agencies; and
- Assume other responsibilities, as assigned, to benefit the Commission.

The candidate should expect to perform in-office work, like coding, as well as fieldwork, in addition to other job-related tasks. Candidates must be eager to learn and to participate within a small multidisciplinary team focused on solving specific water resource problems. Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree or higher in Data Science, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related discipline, preferably with an emphasis in water resources, is required. Coursework related to data science, machine learning, statistics, hydrology, hydraulics, water quality and/or water pollution control desired.
Experience: This is an early career position requiring 3+ years of professional experience; a Master's degree (required) and/or Ph.D. coursework/research/degree in relevant field can be substituted for equivalent years of professional experience. Proficiency with coding languages useful for data management and analyses such as R and Python is expected, as is experience with and interest in machine learning techniques; familiarity with hydrodynamic and/or water quality modeling of surface waters is preferred.
Salary within the range specified will be determined based on education and experience. Candidates with higher qualifications may be considered for a commensurate salary in a higher position grade.
