The Solid Waste Division (SWD) of King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is seeking applications for an Engineer II position in their Facility, Engineering and Science Section (FESS). We are looking for an Engineer ready to provide innovative and high-quality engineering services to assist the Division with designing, constructing, and maintaining landfills including performing: engineering design review and construction management inspection; evaluation of environmental control operating systems; implementing industrial and landfill compliance requirements and producing permit compliance reports. This is a term-limited temporary position that is expected to end in twelve (12) months with the possibility of extension. This position is available to King County career service employees as a special duty assignment.
This position will perform engineering, environmental assessment, and project management duties with the direction of senior engineers associated with Closed Landfills, Cedar Hills Regional Landfill (CHRLF), and ancillary Operations' Support facilities. This position will also assist with the management of Capital Asset Maintenance Program (CAMP) projects; provide operations engineering services to support the operations of landfill environmental control systems, and other infrastructural systems; manage environmental data from groundwater, surface water, wastewater, landfill gas, and soil and perform water quality evaluations applying knowledge of air and aquatic chemistry, fate and transport, environmental analytical methods, environmental monitoring networks, environmental regulations and environmental control systems and will require patience and diligence in environmental data review.
Permanent Telecommuting Requirement: The work associated with this position will be performed remotely on a permanent basis. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Facility Engineering and Science Section Profile: Facility Engineering and Science Section (FESS) staff plan and manage CAMP projects to assist the development and operation of transfer facilities, new landfill areas, and seven closed landfills. The unit also provides Project Engineering services for the Capital Project Management Unit, which manages projects at 7 closed landfills, the CHRLF, and siting and constructing solid waste transfer facilities. FESS performs facility inspections and provides engineering support for facility operations and maintenance directly, and through the management of associated contract services. Staff also provides environmental monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. In collaboration with Operations, they ensure regulatory and permit compliance for all solid waste facilities. Specialized ESS staff provide CAD and SCADA technical services.
