POSITION: #888 - Director of Student Support Services (SSS) – Jasper Campus


APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: February 2022


GENERAL INFORMATION: Bevill State Community College is an accredited, learning-centered institution dedicated to student success by providing quality educational and training opportunities that enrich lives intellectually, economically, and culturally.


QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a master’s degree in education, counseling, educational leadership, behavioral science, or a related field with five or more years of postsecondary experience working with a disadvantaged student population is required. Administrative or supervisory experience and demonstrated competency in verbal/written communication skills are also required. TRIO program experience or management of a similarly grant-funded academic program is preferred. A background similar to the target population is preferred.


SALARY RANGE: Minimum $53,250 Maximum $73,494 annually based on placement on the Bevill State Salary Schedule C3 03.


DUTIES: In addition to adhering to the guidelines as specified by Bevill State Community College Personnel Handbook and the Alabama Community College System, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Plans, organizes, and implements activities of the SSS project.
2. Recruit and select SSS participants each year and as needed.
3. Ensure that project enrichment activities address the needs of selected participants to encourage participant success, retention, and completion.
4. Serve as a liaison between the Director of IE, Research and Grants, the College, the U.S. Department of Education, and other agencies providing services to the college.
5. Ensure that policies and procedures are in compliance with all grant and federal regulations as contained in EDGAR, OMB and SSS regulations.
6. Maintain contact with Business Office personnel to ensure an efficient system of fiscal control.
7. Effectively manage the project’s budget and finances by maintaining accurate records of grant awards, financial obligations, project expenditures, etc.
8. Maintain security and confidentiality of participant and project files.
9. Work with the Financial Aid Office to ensure participants are offered financial aid, scholarship, and transfer information.
10. Assist in selecting, employing, and training project personnel.
11. Coordinate the project’s activities to facilitate maximum utilization of staff and other project resources to enhance the effectiveness of the project.
12. Conduct effective evaluation procedures to measure the project’s stated objectives against actual compliance and report progress and problem areas to the Director of IE, Research and Grants.
13. Represent the project on institutional committees relating directly or indirectly to SSS participants or to the delivery of support services to participants.
14. Supervise and evaluate the activities and performance of Project personnel in accordance with applicable, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
15. Perform other duties as needed to support and facilitate the essential functions of the SSS project.
