**NOTICE**

In accordance with the BHN Mandatory COVID vaccine policy - all staff, interns, temps, residents and contractors are required to be fully vaccinated no later than day one of employment. Medical or religious exemptions will be offered and must be approved prior to starting work.

Your experience, knowledge and great skills will support the Crisis Program with the following:

  • Act as liaison between law enforcement personnel/ behavioral health provider staff and individuals served/families
  • Providing high quality community based care to all individuals.
  • Tending to individuals served and families’ basic needs, including food and drink.
  • Aids in providing telephonic consumer support.
  • Documenting services in a manner that is compliant with all applicable rules/regulations.
  • Sharing and model the recovery-oriented philosophy; including education around self-determination, transparency and peer values.
  • Providing support to consumers and families.
  • Educating consumers and families about the assessment/intervention process.
  • Liaison between master’s level clinician, Law Enforcement and consumers/families, by updating consumers and families during the assessment/intervention process.
  • Assisting in aiding consumers and families during the transition to follow-up services.
  • Shares and models the recovery-oriented philosophy, including education around coping skills.

BHN’s Crisis Program provides 24/7 front line response to individuals of all ages who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis, regardless of insurance. BHN provides services on a mobile basis, including home and community-based settings or in an emergency department when needed.

Job Requirements

What are we looking for in a Certified Peer Specialist?

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
  • Knowledge of delivery systems, organizational skills, understanding crisis intervention (preferred).
  • Knowledge and application of the Recovery Oriented model, specific to those experiencing a mental health crisis (preferred).
  • Knowledge of local community resources, including recovery-oriented, peer support services (preferred).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing (required).
  • Must display empathic skills and the ability to establish rapport with consumers, family members and service providers (required).
  • Must have familiarity with internet, word processing and email systems (required).
  • Must have reliable transportation during each shift to provide community based services (required).
  • Must be an adult who has utilized mental health services, is in recovery from mental illness, and believes in the Recovery Oriented Model of care (required).
  • Within 1 year of hire date must complete the Peer Specialist certification training and pass the exam to become a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) (required).
