Summary

This position will perform a wide variety of routine manual work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment buildings and grounds at the Brightwater and East Section offsite facilities.  


The work associated with this position will primarily be performed onsite; this is not a telework position. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. WORK LOCATION: Brightwater Treatment Plant - 22505 State Route 9 SE, Woodinville, WA 98072.
 

WORK SCHEDULE:  This position works a 4 day/10 hours per day schedule. Candidates must be available to work any assigned schedule. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. 

Job Duties

  • Perform landscape maintenance of turf, ornamental plants, soil, wetlands, and retention/detention ponds; install new turf and repair damaged areas. 
  • Maintain, modify, and repair irrigations systems and program system controllers. 
  • Work with the unit supervisor on establishing an irrigation system schedule and/or updating system blueprints as needed.
  • Operate and maintain all landscape gardening equipment; perform preventative maintenance and repair as necessary.
  • Mix and apply pesticides and herbicides for pest and plant control; maintaining up-to-date pesticide records as required by the State Department of Agriculture.
  • Inspect and provide feedback on work performed by external contractors for landscape and other related projects.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Knowledge of landscape planting principles and techniques 
  • Knowledge of landscape gardening materials and operating equipment
  • Knowledge of basic hand and gas-powered tools
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems principles and techniques including design, installation, and maintenance of non-potable water systems
  • Knowledge of working with pesticides and herbicides
  • Ability to perform field work, use ladders, and work around noxious odors and high noise levels
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds 
  • Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite

Education and Experience Requirements
  • And any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position 

Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements
  • Washington State Driver’s License
  • Washington State Public Pesticide Public Operator’s license (within six months of employment)
