Job Description:

Campus Title: Coordinator of Student-Athlete Leadership Inclusion and Engagement

Funding: Contracted / NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship 2-year Grant
Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary 
Timeframe: 10 months 
Position Date Commitments:  August 1, 2023-May 31, 2024 and August 1, 2024-May 31, 2025
Supervision Received: Reports to the Associate Director of Athletics 
Salary: $30,000 + Professional Development and on campus Graduate Housing

General Statement of Duties: The Coordinator of Student-Athlete Leadership, Inclusion and Engagement role is vital in continuing to grow our awareness and resources at Westfield State University and our Athletics Department. The person hired, will report to Nancy Bals, Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator and in addition will work with, Marlee Berg-Haryasz, Assistant Athletics Director, Recruitment, Retention and Student-Athlete Wellbeing and Richard Lenfest, Director of Athletics. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:

  • Leadership: Co-supervise the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and MASCAC SAAC participation.  Co-supervise the Student-Athletes Inclusive Excellence Committee.  Assist in updating department manuals, enhancing student-athlete experience over academic breaks and serve on various committees under Athletics.  Co-supervise leadership programming for our student-athletes and faculty/staff during the academic year.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Coordinate educational efforts around inclusion and working on strengthening existing programming and resources. Collaborate with groups on campus and work directly with the Division of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI). 
  • Student Engagement: Collaborate with Offices of Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL) in their mission to promote programs and workshops based around inclusiveness, leadership and innovation. Assist in planning events to promote diversity and inclusion to spread awareness and create a welcoming environment.  For example, planning game day promotions and educational programming, to serve as a platform for campus strategic initiatives. 
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Being a member of the NCAA Division III, the hired person will have the opportunity to be involved in many assets of the Department and will be a member of the management team. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, supervisory responsibilities in the area of facilities, intramurals and Compliance education to coaches. 


Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Degree in Athletics Administration and/or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in athletics at the intercollegiate level.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with staff, coaches, faculty, alumni and the community.
  • Outstanding communication skills, especially oral.
  • Strong organizational and technological skills.
  • Experience in the area of leadership, justice, equity and inclusion, and providing academic support.

Salary:
For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.

Covid-19 Requirements:

As a condition of employment, you will be required to complete an initial series of COVID vaccination (2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose of J&J) prior to coming to campus. Initial booster doses are strongly encouraged for everyone who is eligible. New employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination to Human Resources prior to onboarding.
