The Science Specialists supports the science department by providing materials to schools for an innovative, hands-on, high quality science education program designed to meet the needs of all children in the Springfield Public Schools.  

 

Job Duties:

  1. Coordinate the operation of the Science Resource Center.
  2. Receive, inspect, and store science materials as they are delivered to the Science Resource Center.
  3. Ensure fulfillment of refurbishment requests for consumable items and teacher's requests for living materials.
  4. Facilitate the transfer of science materials to and from the schools.
  5. Keep track of inventory and order more supplies when needed.
  6. Maintain the orderly storage of science materials.
  7. Work with the Director of Science and the District Science ILS in the operation of the Science Resource Center.
  8. Work in cooperation with the school site administrators.
  9. Cooperatively work with educators and other staff members.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Requires at least 1-2 years of experience in the field.
  2. Relevant associates degree required, or educational requirement may be substituted for at least 3 years of experience in relevant field.
  3. Highly organized
  4. Demonstrates effective and reliable work habits, including regular and punctual attendance, and shows a willingness to learn new work skills.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with educators in a friendly and supportive manner.
  6. Ability to work as an effective team member in a diverse educational, multicultural environment.
  7. Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  8. Skill, ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  9. Skill and ability to access email and internet.
  10. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.
  11. Familiarity with science materials is helpful.
