General Description
Under general supervision operates College owned vehicle to safely shuttle students within the Cranford campus and between campuses.  May be called upon to transport students to special events off campus.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Provides consistent transportation service in a safe, pleasant, helpful and effective manner to students of the College community.

• Maintains daily record of shuttle usage in conjunction with the Public Safety Department.

• Notifies the Facilities Department when vehicle needs repairs, refueling and detailed cleaning.
Education Requirements
High School graduate or equivalent required.
Experience
Previous driving experience.
Competencies and Skills Required
Must meet the following requirements to be included on the Union College Approved Vehicle Operator’s list:

• New Jersey valid driver’s license and violation-free driving record required
• Complete and be awarded a certification of a Defensive Driver Course by the National Safety Council, or another entity with similar expertise that has been pre-approved by the college.  Exceptions to the requirement may be made on a case by case basis if the driver has one of the following: 1) CDL- Commercial Driver’s License, 2) A Driver Safety Instructor’s Course Certificate or 3) Any other document, which represents, as determined by the Director of Public Safety, a body of knowledge that is equivalent or exceeds that of the basic course required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position’s routine duties are normally performed in a typical vehicular and traffic work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.

• Required to submit to a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Salary $15/hour

Terms of Employment
Part Time seasonal position, during academic semesters (fall, spring, summer). Monday through Friday; between the periods of 9am-5pm on any combination of days, not to exceed hours 25 per week. Flexible schedule to meet department needs.  Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college.  Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
