Some of the work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.  There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.

COVID-19 Contact Tracing
Contact Tracers conduct in-depth interviews with individuals (“cases”) who tested positive for COVID-19. They contact individuals identified by cases (“contacts”) who were potentially exposed while the case was in the contagious period of their illness.  Contact Tracers notify contacts about their exposure status. They support COVID-19 positive cases and their contacts with access to testing, communicate isolation and quarantine (I&Q) guidelines, and help support people adhere to these I&Q guidelines by providing information and referrals to community resources.

Job Duties

  1. New Contact Tracer Employee Training:  
    • Work with contact tracing team to develop, refine, and implement training materials, videos, and training protocols 
    • Train new contact tracers (DRIS)
      • Review protocols and procedures for King County contact tracing 
      • Provide orientation on databases and software used to conduct daily work
      • Coordinate observations, mock interviews and other training activities 
      • Monitor trainees to ensure completion of all required training tasks 
    • Coordinate process for graduating trainees:  
      • Coordinate assessments 
      • Orient new observers on process for scoring and assessing trainees
      • Observe trainees making live calls, assess ability to work as independent tracers
      • Update and refine program, as needed 
    • Provide staff who need support with 1:1 training
 
     2. Existing Staff Training: 
  • Develop programs, materials, videos, and protocols aimed at improving staff skills
  • Define a process for training existing staff on new procedures
  • Realign staff on best practices
  • Attend daily debrief meetings to identify issues and need for added training.
  • Use QA findings to help develop needed improvements in training practices and material
     3. Training Satisfaction Surveys:
  • Define survey content, disseminate to new staff, collect and report on findings
  • Use survey findings to address training gaps and identify improvements
     4. Database Improvements:
  • Provide ongoing feedback and recommendations on User issues, content confusion, script improvements, etc

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Has experience:

  1. delivering training to new staff on topics such as:
    • Phone-based customer service, telephone interviewing, disease investigations, or other similar work
    • How to navigate and enter respondent data into a database while conducting the interview
    • How to follow complex protocols (ie., disease investigations, research, customer service)
  2. developing training programs:   materials, videos, guides, job aides, etc.
  3. providing feedback to staff on performance and performance improvements
  4. conducting and training on basic interviewing skills 
  5. developing evaluations of programs and using evaluation findings to improve program quality
  6. providing recommendations on database and protocol improvements for programs
  7. experience working with participant or customer databases (data-capture systems for tracking interview responses and protocol progress)
 
 Desired Experience -  
  1. Disease investigation and/or public health interventions
  2. Motivational interviewing techniques
  3. Phone-based customer service 
  4. Delivered online trainings (via Zoom, Teams, Skype)
  5. Experience with REDCap

Supplemental Information

  • Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

  • Staff may be required to play a role as a first responder in the event of a Public Health emergency.
